BUSBY, a village, partly in the parish of East Kilbride,
Middle ward of the county of Lanark, but
chiefly in the parish of Mearns, Upper ward of the
county of Renfrew; containing 902 inhabitants. This
village is pleasantly situated on the river White Cart,
the sides of which, abruptly precipitous and rocky, are
thickly wooded, and display much variety of scenery.
The inhabitants are employed chiefly in a print-field and
a factory in the immediate neighbourhood; the printfield
is in the parish of East Kilbride, and the cottonfactory,
which was established in 1780, in that of Mearns.
A post has been instituted here, under the post-office
of Glasgow.
