COATDYKE, a village, in the late quoad sacra parish
of Gartsherrie, parish of Old Monkland, Middle
ward of county Lanark; containing 459 inhabitants.
This place participates largely in raising the mineral
products of the district, iron and coal; and in the neighbourhood
are several quarries, including one of white freestone,
the thickness of which is in some parts seventy
feet.
