CUMINESTOWN, a village, in the parish of MonQUHiTTER, district of Turriff, county of Aberdeen, 6 miles (E. by N.) from TurrifiF; containing 477 inhabitants. This place took its name from Joseph Cumine, Esq., an enterprising landowner, who founded it about the middle of the last century. The present proprietor of Auchry, who purchased the mansion and principal part of the estate from Mr. Cumine's family in 1830, has actively pursued the plans partially carried out by the Cumines, for the improvement of his property in the parish, and the promotion of the agricultural interest.
