DARNICK, a village, in the parish of Melrose and district of
Melrose, county of Roxburgh, 1 mile (W. by N.) from
Melrose; containing 280 inhabitants. It is pleasantly
seated in the vale of Melrose, and the population is
chiefly employed in agriculture. The Edinburgh and
Hawick railway passes here. A school house has been
built by the heritors for the instruction of the poorer
children.
