DEAN, a village, in the parish of Wilton, district
of Hawick, county of Roxburgh, 1 mile (W.) from
Hawick; containing 129 inhabitants. It is seated in
the southern part of the parish, and on a small stream,
a tributary to the river Teviot, which latter bounds the
parish on the south-east.
