GATESIDE, a village, in the parish of Neilston, Upper ward of the county of Renfrew, f of a mile (N. N. E.) from Neilston; containing 673 inhabitants. This village has arisen from the establishment of the cotton manufacture in this part of the parish, and the consequent erection of a spacious mill rfor spinning and weaving cotton, in 1786. It is neatly built, and is chiefly inhabited by persons employed in the cottonworks, and in the printing and bleaching establishments connected with them.
