SAND, an isle, in the parish of Small Isles, county
of Argyll. This is a small islet, constituting the southeast
side of the harbour of Canna, and separated from
Canna island by a strait that is nearly dry at every ebbing
of the tide. It is suitable both for cultivation and
pasture, and is inhabited by a few persons.
