STENHOUSE-MUIR, a village, in the parish of Larbert, county of Stirling, 2^ miles (N. W. by N.) from Falkirk; containing 1206 inhabitants. Part of this village is the property of William Forbes, Esq., of Callendar, and part held by the Carron Company on lease. It is chiefly remarkable for the remains of the ancient manor-house, originally built in 1622, and consisting of two sides of a quadrangle, with a turret at the point ofjunction, under which is a well- staircase, and four turrets at the extreme angles of the building. The inhabitants are employed in the collieries and foundries belonging to the company, and are supplied with provisions from the market of Falkirk, on the opposite bank of the Carron.
