STONEYHILL, a hamlet, in the parish of Inveresk, county of Edinburgh, § a mile (W. S. W.) from Musselburgh; containing 36 inhabitants. The lands of Stoneyhill were formerly possessed by a family named Dobie, and subsequently by Sir William Sharp, son of the wellknown Archbishop of St. Andrew's: they afterwards came, together with the lands of Monktonhall, and the coal under the whole lordship of Inveresk, to the Earl of Werayss. Stoneyhill House is in the vicinity of the hamlet.
