THORNTON, a hamlet, in the parish of CarringTON;
county of Edinburgh, 2^ miles (W. N. W.) from
the village of Carrington; containing 70 inhabitants. It
is a small place, situated in the north-western part of
the parish, near the borders of the parishes of Lasswade
and Cockpen.
