TREVWALCHMAI, or TREWALCHMAI (TREF-WALCHMAI), a parish, partly in the hundred of LLYVON, and partly in the hundred of MALLTRAETH, union of ANGLESEY and county of ANGLESEY, NORTH WALES, 5 miles (W.) from Llangevni; containing 699 inhabitants. This parish is situated on the new line of the great road from London to Holyhead, and comprises a moderate extent of inclosed arable and pasture land, and a small portion of common, affording good pasturage for sheep. The village, which, since the diversion of the Holyhead road in this direction, has considerably increased in size, and improved in appearance, is neatly built, and, though still small, has, with its church, which is on an mi. Bence, a pleasing appearance. The living is annexed to the rectory of Heneglwys: the tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £204. 12. 6.; and there is a glebe of three acres, valued at £3 per annum. The church, dedicated to St. Mordeyrn, is a small ancient edifice, consisting of a nave, with north aisle or chapel, extending nearly the whole length of the building, and has an east window of good design. Here is a day school, in which about 40 children are instructed at the expense of their parents; and a Sunday school is carried on, in which 820 males and females are gratuitously taught. William Bold, in 1688, and the Rev. Hugh Hughes, and an unknown donor, severally bequeathed portions of land for the benefit of the poor. The benefaction of the first produces £14. 13. per annum, and that of the second £1, half of which is applied to the repairs of the church, and the other half to the poor; the localities of both these rants being in the parish of Heneglwys: the third gift is situated in Cemmes Parcel, and consists of above 5-acres, but being let to a poor person, yields only £1 a year. Beside; the above, the parish is in possession of several small pieces of land, producing £5. 2. per annum, distributed among the poor.
