Note for the Reader.

The present is the thirteenth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield which has been completed by the Shropshire Parish Register Society. It consists of the Registers of Edgmond, Tibberton, Waters Upton, Great Bolas, and Eaton Constantine.

In this volume, as has been the plan adopted by the Council throughout, the Registers are not printed verbatim et literatim, but in abstract form, all mere verbiage being omitted, though every fact is recorded, and all occurrences, remarkable events, terriers, &c., given in the Registers are printed in full. The following abbreviations have been adopted:

A capital letter after "of" or "p." denotes the parish whose particular Register is being printed; thus "of E." = "of Edgmond", and "p. T. " = "parish of Tibberton".

Thanks are due to the Revs. Prebendary Talbot, F.J. Salt, S. Hobson, J. Miller, and R. Jowett Burton, for leave to print the Registers, and for facilities afforded in their transcription and collation. Also to Mr. T.R. Horton for transcribing, and to Miss Auden, and the Revs. R. Jowett Burton, and W.G.D. Fletcher, for collating; and to the Rev. E.R.O. Bridgeman for some extracts from the Mytton MSS., and for a valuable historical account of the manor of Edgmond.
