Note for the Reader.

THE present is the fourth volume of the Registers of the Diocese of Lichfield which has been completed by the Shropshire Parish Register Society.

As before, the Registers are given in abstract form comprising all facts which are recorded, and abbreviations, most of which are obvious to the reader, are freely used. A full list of them is given in the preceding volumes, as well as a summary of Parish Register history.

The registers in the present volume are all printed from their commencement down to the year 1812, which seems a convenient stopping-point, as then was inaugurated a new system of registration by what is known as Rose's Act, which lasted only till 1837.

Thanks are due to the clergy, the custodians of the respective registers, for leave to print them, and for facilities afforded in transcription. Their names are mentioned in the respective registers.

The services of those who have assisted are mentioned in the various introductions, but as to this volume it is requisite to specially refer to the aid given in transcription by Miss Parry, Miss Walker, Mr. T.R. Horton, the Rev. J.E. Auden, and Miss A.M. Auden. The Rev. W.G.D. Fletcher assisted in the collation.
