ALESWORTH, (Nottinghamshire) near Mansfield, bel. formerly, one part of it to the priory of Burton in Staffordshire, and the other part was, after the conquest, the see of Will. Peverel. The priory of Lenton had also 12d. a year out of the mill of this place, and a mark out of some other lands, which were held by Robert de Alesworth, and his posterity. In the R. of Hen. VI. Rich. Baker came into the possession of their part, and his family flourished here for several descents. Not many years ago, this township was divided bet. the Willoughbies of Risley, and Ascoughs of Nuthal, descended from Sir Hen. Willoughby, and Sir Roger Ascough.
