ALVINGTON, (Gloucestershire) near Lidney, in the forest of Dean, was anciently one of the Roman stations, but is now only a small village, with a chapel of ease to Wollaston. Its manor bel. heretofore to the priory of Lanthony, near Gloucester, and had a Mt. but at the ref. it passed to Arth. Porter, then to Sir Will. Herbert, and lastly to Will. Higford, of Dixon, Esq; who had a pleasant seat here.
