ASHELE, (Norfolk) bet. Watton and Swaffam, is a manor held by court serjeanty, in right whereof, the possessor has the oversight and disposal of the table linen, used at coronations. It was first in the family of the Hastings, 'till Hen. VIII. sold the reversion to Sir Henry Wyat; and in Q. Mary's R. bel. to Sir Hen. Bedingfield, whose posterity performed the office at the coronation of K. James II. and had all the table-linen for his fee.
