AXHOLM, (Lincolnshire) is a river-island, in the N. W. part of the Co. formed by the Trent, Idle, Dun, and other rs. that encompsss it. 'Tis about 10 m. long, 4 broad, and 20 in compass, and yields alabaster, and flax, and a sweet-scented shrub, called gall. Petts, and the dead roots of fir-trees, are also found here. The Mowbrays, and after them, viz.. in the sixteenth. century, the Ld. Sheffield had great part of this island in their possession.
