BASHAM, East and West, (Norfolk) S.W. from Walsingham. In the R. of Hen. VIII. Sir William Fermer built himself a seat here, which is since settled in the family of the Calthorps. Sir Henry Spelman says, it was a common report in his time, that the said K. Hen. went barefooted from one of these villages to the Virgin Mary's shrine at Wallsingham, to offer it a necklace of very great value.
