BEACON-HILL, (Essex) opposite to Landguard-fort, and on the S. side of the mouth of the port of Harwich, has a large, high light-house upon it, for the sake of ships passing into or by it; from whence there is an extentive view of the coast of Suffolk and Essex, the T. and port of Harwich, and the men of war riding at the gun-fleet. There is a pleasant walk from hence to that T. which is about half a m. and at the foot of the hill a well of petrifying water. Much of the stone along the shore is of the coperas kind, of which mineral, a great deal is found between this promontory and the Nazepoint, about 5 m. hence on the Essex-shore.
