BLACKHEATH, (Kent) on the S. side of Greenwich, a large plain whereon Watt Tyler, the Kentish rebel, muster'd 100,000 men; and on which is a hos. built by Sir John Mordaunt, a Turky merchant, for decayed merchants. 'Tis adorned with the fine seats of Sir Gregory Page, &c. and in the park is a royal observatory for the king's astronomer; to which there is a steep ascent on all sides, but one; and it has a deep dry well for observing the stars in the day time.
