*BOSSINEY, (Cornwall) 3 m, N. W. from Camelford, on the coast near K. Arthur's castle, is 189 m. from London, commonly called Tintagel, as well as Trevena, and is situate partly on an isthmus, and partly on an island, which in ancient times was joined by a bridge to the main land. Near it are the splendid ruins of a castle, said to have been the birth-place of K. Arthur, and the seat of the Ds. of Cornwal, in the time of the Britons. The castle, manor, and Bor. was settled by Edw. III. on his son, the Black-Prince, when he created him D. of Cornwal, and his heirs, the Prs. of the blood, for ever; and so it is become a parcel of that Dutchy; and as such is held by the corp. which is governed by a mayor. It first returned members to Pt. in the R. of Edw. VI. It has Fairs July 25 and Nov. 11, besides a cattle fair Oct. 8.
