BRANDON, (Suffolk) between Newmarket and Swaffham, 64 cm. 78 mm. from London, has a bridge over the little Ouse, and a good harbour, with a ferry, about 1 m. from the bridge, for conveying goods to and from the isle of Ely. It had a Mt. on Th. which is discontinued, but it has Fairs on Feb. 14, June 11, and Nov. 11. In the R. of Charles I and II. it gave title of Baron to the family of Gerrard, as it has since 1711, that of an English D. to D. Hamilton of Scotland.
