BREED, (Sussex) a little N. W. of Winchelsea, is a manor, whose court is a branch of that of Battle. The lands here
descend, according to the custom of Gavelkind used in its Co. A kind of court is kept here every three weeks, for trial of
actions bet. man and man, whose officers are exempted from attendance at the assizes and quarter-sessions.
