St. BRIAVEL'S, (Gloucestershire) a chapel to Lydney in the forest of Dean, had a castle bel. to it, which, though in ruins, served very lately, if it does not still, as a prison for offenders in the forest. It has always been esteemed a place of trust and honour to be constable of this castle; several of the nobility, particularly the late D. of Beaufort held it; and the mine-court is kept here. It was lately the manor and seat of Mr. Catchmede.
