BROUGHTON, (Lincolnshire) on the r. Ank, near Glandford-bridge and the Roman causey, which leads from London by Lincoln to the Humber. The Relfords were Lds. of it for several ages, 'till Sir Henry Relford left it by an attainder for high treason in 1455; but the Andersons, descendants of Sir Edmund Anderson, Ld. Ch. Jus. of the Common-Pleas in the R. of Q. Eliz. were lately, if they are not still, Lds of the manor. On the E. side of Broughton wood is a spring of water that petrifies moss; and not far off are the ruins of the stately priory of Thornholm.
