BROUGHTON-OVER, (Nottinghamshire) so called, to distinguish it from Nether-Broughton in Leicestershire, to which it joins;
is also called Broughton. Sulney, from the Sulneys family who were Lds. of it 'till the R. of Hen. III. when it came to
the Cliftons, whose family held it a long while 'till it was sold by Sir Gervase Clifton; but the advowson of the Ch.
still remained in his posterity.
