BROUGH upon SANDS, (Cumberland) on the Solway-Frith, near the Picts wall, from whence the neighbouring tract is called the
barony of Burgh, was formerly a Roman station. Here is a pillar, 9 yards and half in heighth, which was erected by John
Aglionby, Esq; in memory of K. Edw. I. who died here the 7th of July, A.D. 1307.
