CANK, (Staffordshire) or CANNOCK, with its Forest, on the S. side of the Trent, near Penkridge, was, with other estates, pass'd over to Ld. Paget, by one of the Bps. of Coventry, in exchange for certain impropriations. Here is a certain iron ore called Cannock stone; the workmen call it the yellow share; which, if worked into iron bars, will, when 'tis used to make any thing, run all into dirt, and is good for nothing. The village Cank is near 3 m. S. of the wood.
