CASTLETON, (Derbyshire) near Pool's-Hole, or that called the Devil's-Arse, in the High-Peak, 6 m. from Buxton. and 9 from Chatsworth, takes its name from an old castle adjoining to it, on a steep rock, to which there is but one ascent, and that so full of windings, that 'tis 2 m. to the top. It formerly bel. to the Peverels. K. Edw. III. gave it to his son John D. of Lancaster. In the neighbourhood are lead mines.
