CHALDON, (Surrey) on the N. E. side of Ryegate, is also called Chalkdown, from the great quantities of chalk found and
used here, as well as of wood, especially hazels. Here are also 2 considerable quarries of freestone. 'Twas formerly the
seat of one Mr. Brown. The Ch. here is very old.
