COLLERTON, (Leicestershire) or COLEOVERTON, to the N.E. of Ashby de la Zouch, is noted for a mineral well, and plenty of pit-coal, whose mines burnt for many years together, in the R. of Hen. VIII. till the sulphurous and bituminous matter, which fed the flame, was spent. It anciently bel. to the Quartermersses, and then to the Maurewards, by whose heir, it was transferred, in the R. of Hen. VI. to the Beaumonts; and 'tis now the seat of Sir George Beaumont, their descendant.
