COLUMBTON, (Devon) 12 m. N. E. of Exeter, 134 cm. 166 mm. W. from London, is the best T. on the r. Columb, from whence it has its name. The manor bel. formerly to the abbey of Buckland in this Co. but after the Ref. to Sir John St. Leger, who sold it to T. Risdon, Esq; The Ch. has a curious rich gilded rood-loft, which is still preserved as an ornament, tho' the image worshipped in days of popery be removed. Here were also several chantries. It has a Mt. on S. and a Fair on May-day; and the woollen is its chief mf.
