COMPTON-ABDAL, (Gloucestershire) on the r. Coln, near Hampnet, bel. to the See of York, from the Conquest to the R. of Edw. VI. who gave it to Sir Tho. Chamberlain; but his heirs selling it to Sir Rich. Grubham, of Wishford in Wilts, it came to Sir John How his nephew; whose greatgrandson, the Ld. Chedworth, is the present owner of it; who has a fine seat here, with the r. running thro' his gardens, and a great park adjacent.
