CORBRIDGE, (Northumberland) near Hexham in the road from Newcastle, on the N. side of the Tine, over which it has a bridge. The manor was formerly the Piercys; and has the ruins of so many ancient buildings, as shew it to have been a large place. Several large teeth and bones found here are supposed to be those of oxen sacrificed to Hercules, whose altar was discovered here some years ago.
