COULSDON, (Surrey) near Croydon and Cashalton, bel. anciently to the abbey of Chertsey; from which it came to the crown, in exchange for other lands, by K. Hen. VIII. who granted it in lease to divers persons; but it reverting to the crown in the R. of Cha. II. he granted the whole to Sir Rob. Long, who left it, in 1673, to Sir Rich. Mason, who married his niece; but 'tis now, or was very lately, in the family of Desbouverie. There is a common in this p. at the foot of which are 3 ditches, that run about 2 furlongs, and seem to have been cast up as a fence against some enemy.
