CRAKENTHORP, (Westmorland) near Appleby, on the r. Eden, is famous for its hall or manor-house on the E. side, which, according to Camden, has bel. to the family of the Mache's ever since the Conquest; and for its moors, over which the Roman military-way passeth,, called the Maiden-Way, on which are the marks of wonderful camps, and where have been found many antiquities.
