DANBURY, (Essex) near Chelmsford, upon a high hill, at the top whereof stands its Ch. with a tall spire, that is a sea- mark. The D'Arcys, who came over with William the Conqueror, were Lds. of this manor for many years. They were succeeded by the Windhams, and these by the Mildmays, who had a seat here called Danbury-Place. 'Tis now the seat of Mr. Fitch. In its Ch. were 3 chantries, founded by the D'Arcys.
