DEEPDEN, (Surrey) bet. Darking and Beachworth, has a remarkable house and garden of Mr. Howard, in a valley surrounded with steep hills, one of which has a summerhouse on the top, from which, in a clear day, may be seen the sea beyond the S. Downs near Arundel. The most southern of these hills were formerly planted with vines; and 'tis said by Mr. Evelyn, that a wild sort of cherries grows hereabouts in great plenty, which makes a wine that is little inferior to the best French claret, and keeps longer.
