DEREHAM-WEST, (Norfolk) on the E. side of Downham, had an abbey, to which the ancestors of the Walpole family granted lands in Upwell. The site of it was bought by a gentleman of the same name; whose descendants have had it ever since, it being now the seat of Sir Tho. Dereham, Bt. In Dec. 1698 there was a disputation in this Ch. bet. the Norfolk clergy and the quakers.
