DUMBLETON, (Gloucestershire) near Bekeford and the Vale of Evesham, is a p. 5 m. in com. with a brook running through it, called Isborn. The manor bel. to the abbey of Abingdon, from Will. the Conq. to the Ref. when it was given to Thomas Ld. Audley and Sir Tho. Pope, by whom it was alienated to Tho. Cox, Esq; of a Kentish family; from whom descended Sir Rich. Cox, the owner of all the lands in the p. who, being also the patron and constant Ch. warden, is obliged to keep it in repair; yet part of the p. is an impropriation bel. to Trinity-Coll. Oxford; and on that account has a claim to a fellowship in that Coll. The N. isle of the Ch. bel. to the Dastons, who have a vault in it, and a strong tower at the W. end. Here is a ch. sc. erected at the charge of Sir Rich. Cox aforesaid.
