EASTON-LITTLE, (Essex) on the W. side of the Chelmer, over against the other, was Sir Tho. Lovaine's manor anciently; but, in the R. of Edw. III. passed by marriage to Sir Will. Bourchier, whose posterity were Earls of Essex; but, after they had enjoyed it for several successions, it was conveyed to the Throgmortons; from whom it was purchased by the Maynards, who have the seat here which did bel. to the Earls of Essex last mentioned, and derive their title of Baron from hence. In old records this place is called Estaynes ad Turrim, or by the Tower.
