EGLETON, (Rutland) in the p. of Okeham, was formerly part of the manor of Langham, and bel. to the Lady Gaveston, wife to the favourite of Edw. II. Henry de Grey Ld. of Cednovre obtained a grant of it, in the R. of Rich. III. and it reverting to the crown, was granted to the family of the Browns; one of whom, viz. Sir Anthony, in the R. of Hen. VIII. reconveyed it to the crown. Geo. Villiers D. of Buckingham was afterwards Ld. of this manor; and since him the late E. of Nottingham.
