EGMANTON, (Nottinghamshire) on the S. side of Tuxford, bel. formerly to the Mowbrays, then to the Everinghams; from whom it came to the Northwoods. It afterwards became the manor of Popham, by the marriage of the daughter of Sir Seb. Harvey, ald. of London; and we find it some time in the possession of the Stanhopes ancestors to the Es. of Chesterfield. Egmanton-Hall was purchased and built by Nich. Powtrel, serjeant at law, who gave it to his cousin Markham; by whose heir it was sold to Fran. Williamson; from whose family it is since come to the family of the Ds. of Kingston.
