GRAFTON-ARDENS, (Warwickshire) bet. Aulcester and Stratford upon Avon, was anciently called Little or Lower-Grafton, to distinguish it from its neighbour, Temple or Upper-Grafton, and had the surname Ardens, from one of that name, who bought it of the Graftons, in the R. of K. John, and whose family held it a long time. It being purchased of the Ardens heirs, this hamlet came into the hands of Edw. I. who gave it to the monks of Westminster, for the celebration of the anniversary of his Q. Eleanor's interment in the abbey. At the Diss. K. Hen. VIII. sold it, with Temple-Grafton, to Will. Sheldon and John Draper.
