HADLEY, (Middlesex) near Barnet, where was once an hermitage, was called Monkton-Hadley, because it was anciently given by the Earl of Essex to his abbey at Walden. K. Hen. VIII. gave this manor at the Diss. to Tho. Ld. Audley; Q. Mary to Sir Tho. Pope, and Q. Elizabeth to William Kympton alderman of London.
