HALDEN-HIGH, (Kent) a manor of Rolvenden, to the N.E. of Tenterden, so called from the Haldens, who purchased it, in the R. of Hen. III. and from whom it passed by the marriage of a daughter, in the next R. to the Guldefords, as it did by the like means to the D. of Northumberland; who forfeiting it in the R. of Q. Mary, by his rebellion, she gave it to Sir John Baker and his heirs; but the demesne was given to Sir Ken. Sidney, whose grandson, Robert E. of Leicester, sold it to Sir Tho. Smith of London. There are, in this and the neighbouring ps. 9 or 10 Dens, that hold of this manor, viz. Stallenden, Ramsden, &c. which, at the court elect so many beadles to gather the quit-rents.
