HUCKNAL, (Nottinghamshire) on the N. side of Nottingham, near the road to Mansfield, was a manor formerly divided into two parts; of which Jess. Torchard having the largest, it was therefore called Hucknal-Torchard. One of his descendants gave it to the priory of Newstede; and the other part, that was one Peverel's, after having passed through several families, was settled on the priory of Beauvale. Q. Eliz. gave the manor to Nich. Stanhope, one of the grooms of her privy-chamber, and to Edw. Stanhope; but, since that, the chief part of the township came to Ld. Byron.
