*KELLINGTON, (Cornwall) 174 cm. 199 mm. from London, on the r. Lamara, is not inferior to the best half of the Cornish Bors. for wealth and building, having one very good broad street, a Mt.-house, and a neat Ch. which is a chapel of ease to Southill, and was rebuilt by serjeant Ashton. Its chief trade is the woollen mf. the Mt. on W. granted by K. Hen. III. and Fairs Apr. 23, Sept. 8, and Nov. 1. It has no charter of incorporation; but every year, at the court-leet of the Ld. of the manor, a portreeve is chosen,when the inh. who have lived here 12 months are admitted burgesses, and thereby qualified to vote for its members. The manor was anciently in the Ferrers family; from which it passed, by marriage, to . the Champernons; from them to the Ld. Willoughby of Brook; then to the Pawlets Marquisses of Winchester; by a daughter of whom, it descended to Sir Henry Rolle, of Stevenstone in Devonshire, Bt. whose posterity have since enjoyed it, and have some of them represented it in Pt. to which members were first sent for this place in the 27th of Q. Eliz. it being the last T. in this Co. that was called on. for such choice. The present Ld. of this manor is Henry Rolle, lately created Baron Stevenstone.
