KNAPTHORP, (Nottinghamshire) on the N. W. side of Newark, bel. formerly to the Deincourts, but in the R. of Edw. III. it went by marriage of two sisters the heiresses to Sir Nicholas Longford and Sir John Buffy. The latter's moiety, after passing through divers families, came in the R. of Q. Eliz. to William Mason and his heirs. The moiety of the former continued many successions in that family, and, for ought we know, remains in it still; but the Buffys part came afterwards to the Suttons, one of whom sold it to William Thorold, Esq; of Lincolnshire, whose descendant, Sir John Thorold, sold it to Sir John Thorney, and it was enjoyed by his great grandson, John Thorney, Esq;.
