KNEVETON, (Nottinghamshire) on the Trent, bet. Nottingham and Newark. This manor, in the R. of Edw. VI. was held of the K. in capite, by Sir Edw. Molineux. It was afterwards enclosed by Geo. Lascelles, Esq; and shortly after sold to the Lady Dormer; from whom it passed to Sir Henry More, and so to the Marq. of Dorchester, who, about 1665, sold it to Sir Fran. Molyneux, Bt. who new built the mansion-house, and made it his seat. A good share was bought of Edw. Mower, and some of Tho. Beane, which Mr. Pochin of Leicestershire sold to Mr. Hacker; whose son, the colonel, sold it to Eliz. relict of Fran. Thornhaugh, and afterwards wife of William Skeffington. Mr. John Story had also a considerable share, which his grandfather William purchased of Mr. Molyneux.
